The Power of God’s Presence (Isaiah 6:1-8)
Words cannot adequately describe Isaiah’s vision of the throneroom of God. What we do know is that he was confronted with God’s awesome holiness and power. Compared to this, Isaiah recognized his sinful condition. But God readily cleansed him and prepared him for service. Chances are you will not experience a vision like Isaiah’s. But if you are a true follower of Jesus you you can know God’s power and presence personally.
In Tune with Our Father (Luke 2:41-52)
Even as a twelve-year-old Jesus recognized His mission. He longed to be in the sweet spot of God’s will. Mary and Joseph did not really understand this. In the same way, others may not understand us when we seek to honor God fully. But our passion for the things of the Lord will put us in tune with Him.
The Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-10)
4th century priest John Chrysotom called the Beatitudes “the golden chain.” He said that each blessing flowed from the ones before. Pastor Bruce gives an overview of these eight famous sayings of Jesus. Then he shows how they combine to create a unified teaching from our Lord.
When It Gets to be Too Much (2 Corinthians 12:7-10)
Life can be tough. The apostle Paul knew this all too well. Yet he understood that in the midst of trials, God is there. He dealt with a thorn in the flesh that gave him fits. But Jesus told Paul that he wouldn’t take that thorn away. Jesus’ grace was greater than Paul’s thorn. And that thorn kept Paul humble. While every challenge in life isn’t there to teach us a lesson, we can learn from them. We can rely…
Flip Your Life (2 Kings 18:4-6)
King Hezekiah did good in God’s sight. Early in his reign he cleaned house spiritually. He tore down the idols and high places. He even destroyed a venerated object constructed by Moses. Hezekiah knew this was necessary to bring his nation back to God. Using this good king’s actions as a template, Pastor Bruce shares how we can do the same in our lives.
The Godly Lifestyle (Romans 12:1-2)
God is merciful to save us and make us His children. Doesn’t it just make sense for us to give Him our best?
God’s Go-Live Date (1 Corinthians 15:3-8)
God planned before time began to send Jesus to save the world from sin. The Old Testament both shows how far into sin mankind can go. But it also is chock full of prophecies concerning the coming Messiah. Pastor Bruce gives a brief review of God’s dealings with humanity through the Old Testament and why Jesus had to come to save us.
Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1-10)
Jesus’ encounter with Zacchaeus on the way to Jerusalem is so well known that there’s a children song about it. However, as you dig deeper into their meeting you see much more than a little tune can give you. Zacchaeus was an outcast even as he lived among the people every day. His experience shows that being on the fringes of society is about a lot more than economics or background. But the biggest takeaway from these verses is that…
No Other Option (John 6:66-69)
The end of the sixth chapter of John finds many abandoning Jesus. They liked Him for the miracles and what He could give them physically. What they objected to was His call to surrender. Jesus wanted them to make Him the Lord and Leader of their lives. But Peter and the other disciples had seen too much to leave Jesus. They realized that other options were in actuality no options at all. And when you recognize that Jesus is all…
The Real Enemy (Ephesians 6:10-13)
It’s easy to see those who are against God as an enemy. But we have to look past the physical and see the spiritual battle. To be sure, there are many who are against Jesus in our world today. But the real culprit is Satan and his minions.
