The Need for Clarity
Sermon text: Colossians 1:28-29 Our culture today is anything but clear. So much of what is said is muddy at best. Competing agendas and philosophies are even complicating straightforward concepts like gender and marriage. It’s reasonable to assume that confusion is running rampant. This is why there is such a need for clarity from the Christian community. Our message about Jesus must be clear. We cannot cloud it with wrong motives or unimportant information. People’s eternal souls are at stake.
Caution Ahead
Sermon Text: Romans 16:19 As Paul finishes his letter to the Roman Christians, he warns them of a potential threat. Many scholars believe that this would be false teachers, who would confuse and divide these believers. There are many threats today confronting the modern church. Christians today must heed the same warning and instruction provided by Paul.
Current Events (Romans 1:18-32)
God’s wrath is a part of his righteousness. If God did not punish sin, then He would not be truly righteous. The latter part of the first chapter of Romans describes to whom and why this wrath must be applied. And even though these words were written almost 2000 years ago, the actions they describe are as fresh as tonight’s evening news.
On Call (2 Timothy 4:1-5)
We never know when the Lord will lead us to talk with someone about Him. It may with an individual who is searching for answers, or someone who thinks they know everything. He could want to us to correct an erring believer or witness to an unbeliever. Because we cannot know when those opportunities will come, we need to be ready all the time.
Hang In There! (Isaiah 35:3-4)
With everything coming at you fairly furiously these days, it’s not hard to get worn out. But even in the midst of your fatigue, you can have hope. Regardless of what’s going on in the world, God’s plan will still come to fruition. Both the Old and New Testament bear this out.
Don’t Forget (1 Peter 3:1-10)
Scripture is very clear that many will question God’s promises. Not only that, they will try to convince you to question them as well. But they are willfully ignorant of what God’s Word teaches. God is always faithful to keep His promises. Always. Jesus will return, exactly when He’s supposed to. The fact is, He hasn’t returned because we have more work to do.
What’s Your First Sentence? (Jeremiah 9:23-24)
Just as in Jeremiah’s day, people today value skill, power, and riches above just about everything else. In fact, many put their trust in these whether they possess them or someone else does. But where our trust and glory should rest is in our relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ. All of this will pass away. But God and His righteousness are eternal.
