Sermons on Wisdom (Page 2)
A Thanksgiving Lament (Psalm 13)
For many of us 2020 has been a tough year. But even in years with less drama, it’s possible to experience setbacks. And sometimes those challenges can go on for quite some time. How does the believer confront the struggles of life? The many lament psalms show us that we can still depend on God and His grace, regardless of what is happening at any given point.
Downpayment on Eternity (Luke 16:1-13)
Jesus taught a lot about money. His parable of the unjust steward is tough for some to deal with. Is Jesus commending someone who is dishonest? No, He would never do that. Jesus uses this parable to explain the importance of recognizing the usefulness of money and possessions in furthering His kingdom.
Where We Stand
The church in America sometimes conflates patriotism with Christianity. Believers must always remember our first citizenship is in the kingdom of God. But that doesn’t mean that we cannot love our country as well. Using the most famous sentence from the Declaration of Independence, Pastor Bruce discusses this tension between God and country. Along the way he shows that a Christian worldview helps us understand the intentions of our founding fathers.
Trouble Ahead (Mark 4:35-41)
Mark’s account of Jesus calming the Sea of Galilee teaches us a great deal about facing trials in life. We all come up against periods of trouble. God will use these times to teach us and guide us. On the other hand, Satan will capitalize on them to defeat us. But God is greater than our most stubborn obstacles. We can trust him regardless of the situation.
Representing Jesus (James 3:13-18)
While the world seeks to offer us comfort, it actually ends up creating confusion. This is because the world’s system is geared toward self-centeredness. Jesus offers a better way. When you guide your life by His principles, you are able to experience peace. Even better, you can impart that peace to others.
